European Forest: A Unique Residential House Design by Chien-Hui Lee

Blending Fashioned Materials and Thoughtful Design

The European Forest design by Chien-Hui Lee is a residential house that embodies countryside-style aesthetics while considering lighting and air quality. With its bright and modest dining room and kitchen, as well as an extensively open layout, this design offers expanded and pleasant visual perceptions.

What sets the European Forest design apart is its focus on improving the previous layout by separating public and private areas. Additionally, the design incorporates a great-capacity storage room that effectively helps maintain a tidy living environment while highlighting the overall aesthetics.

The entryway of the European Forest design serves as a transition area, connecting the public and private spaces. It is adorned with bright wood cabinets and branch-like wall racks, creating an alluring impression. The apple green wall at the entryway adds a touch of natural charm to the design.

With a total area of 198 square meters, the European Forest design offers a spacious and functional living space. The public area, consisting of an open living room, dining area, and kitchen, is visually delineated by wood beams and distinct flooring. The floor-to-ceiling wood blinds in the living room allow for comfortable daylight and air circulation.

The European Forest design was completed in April 2017 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It draws inspiration from European countryside and contemporary elegant styles, resulting in a unique and one-of-a-kind design. The use of dried flower bouquets on the iron ceiling rack adds to the overall charm, while the light-colored solid wood dining table and antler-like ceiling lamp create a Nordic texture.

The dining room, adjacent to the window, provides a lustrous and pleasant atmosphere. The area adjoining the dining room features a low cabinet adorned with stones and bookshelves, creating a space where the family can also enjoy playing the piano. This area elegantly showcases the evolution of space and offers an expanded visual perception.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was creating a smooth traffic flow in the dining room and kitchen area. Unlike the living room, the layout in this area is linear, with hexagonal floor tiles subtly indicating the kitchen space. The open island counter adds a laid-back aura to the design.

The European Forest design received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes designs that showcase outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The European Forest design contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
